Background:
We have developed a product along with the formulae called TIFATIL grower which not only economizes the production but also improves the edible meat quality by feeding this product. Tilapia aquaculture is gaining momentum in India and it is a credible indigenously made fish feed is not available in the market. CIFATIL was conceptualized and field-tested to our satisfaction. The product was made using ingredients such as maize, soybean, soybean meal, rice bran, groundnut oil cake, fish meal, oil, minerals and vitamin mixtures in a properly balanced form. This product gives a FCR of 1.4 when compared to commercial feed 1.7.:
The purpose of developing this feed was to cater to the need of fish farmer in general and tilapia farmer in particular in specific because there was no indigenously made tilapia feed at the time of our product development. If the product will be commercialized then the farmers will benefit by getting a feed for tilapia that will give them higher returns.:
Technology Details:
This is a new product for tilapia grow-out system. The main feature of the product is the ingredient used that were available in the local markets. The finished product gives a FCR of 1.4 in the field. The benefit will be many folds since the farmer growing tilapia in biofloc, tanks, indoor systems and other open water system will get a feed that is cheaper than the market price and a better efficiency.
